He has sung in ten different languages throughout his career, interpreting the lyrics of the lyricist Roma Ryan, mainly in her native language, Irish Gaelic and English, as well as Latin, Spanish, Japanese, French, the fictitious language Quenya and " Loxian ", a language constructed by Ryan herself, among others. With her album Watermark, released in 1988, she achieved international prominence, and Enya became known for her unique sound, characterized by the use of multiple "voice layers" synthesized from her own, folk melodies, synth backgrounds and ethereal reverberations. Įnya began her musical career in 1979, when she briefly joined Clannad, a musical group made up of several of her brothers and uncles, before launching her solo career.
